Inflatables
The Best Halloween Inflatable Costumes
Same blower-and-nylon technology as the thing on your lawn, worn instead of staked. The fan is what decides whether the night goes well.

The short answer
The licensed Jurassic World T-Rex is the best inflatable Halloween costume: it is the one everybody recognises instantly, and its clear neck window gives genuinely usable forward vision, which most suits in this category do not. For an on-theme Halloween option rather than a comedy one, the inflatable Grim Reaper.
An inflatable costume is the same idea as the inflatable on your lawn — a nylon shell held up by one small fan — with one difference that changes everything: the fan is now four AA batteries strapped to your waist instead of a mains blower. Almost every complaint about these costumes traces back to that fan.

Scores are our own editorial rubric for best halloween inflatable costumes. They are not customer ratings, and we do not publish star ratings or review counts for products.
How we picked
Five criteria, and two of them are about wearing the thing rather than looking at it:
- Crowd reaction — the only reason anybody buys one of these. Recognition beats originality here.
- Build quality — seam and fan-housing quality, which is where the cheap suits give themselves away.
- Wearability — vision, sitting down, getting through a doorway. The criterion the product photos never show.
- Fan and battery life — how long it stays inflated, and how awkward the battery pack is to reach.
- Storage footprint — near-perfect across the board; this is the category's genuine advantage.
Scores are our own published rubric, applied to specifications and documented owner reports rather than to hands-on testing. The editorial policy explains it.

Grim Reaper Inflatable Adult Costume
Bodysocks
Most inflatable suits are comedy. The reaper is the one that is actually Halloween, and the inflated bulk makes it loom rather than just look funny.
- Type
- Full-body step-in inflatable suit with hood
- Fan
- Battery pack and fan, 4 x AA
- Fit
- One size, adult
- Vision
- Mesh or open hood, model dependent
Good
- On-theme in a category that is mostly dinosaurs and cartoon characters
- The silhouette works under low light, where bright comedy suits do not
- Hood shadow hides the wearer's face without a separate mask
Less good
- Dark fabric makes you hard to see on a road at night — add reflective tape
- Prints vary a lot between sellers at this tier
- Hood restricts hearing as well as vision
- Crowd reaction8.0
- Build quality6.8
- Wearability6.2
- Fan and battery life6.4
- Storage footprint9.0

Inflatable Upside-Down Clown Adult Costume
Orion Costumes
The inverted-body suits are the cleverest thing in this category: the inflated half does the impossible pose while you just walk around inside it.
- Type
- Illusion inflatable suit, inverted figure
- Fan
- Built-in fan, 4 x AA batteries
- Fit
- One size fits most adults
- Vision
- Concealed mesh panel
Good
- Genuinely fools people for a second, which no straight character suit does
- Works as comedy and as unsettling at the same time — rare in this price tier
- Clown versions read as Halloween where the non-horror illusions do not
Less good
- Concealed vision panels are the worst in the category; you see very little
- Top-heavy when inflated, so wind pushes you around outdoors
- Not a costume you can wear all evening — it is a photo costume
- Crowd reaction9.0
- Build quality6.6
- Wearability4.8
- Fan and battery life6.4
- Storage footprint8.8

Giant Inflatable Skeleton Head Adult Costume
SNOLAF
An oversized inflated head is pure silhouette, and silhouette is what reads across a dark street or a crowded room when detail does not.
- Type
- Oversized inflatable head or upper body
- Fan
- Attached fan, 4 x AA batteries
- Fit
- One size, adult
- Vision
- Mesh panel in the jaw or eye socket
Good
- Scale does the work — it reads from much further away than a mask
- Lower body stays normal, so you can still walk and sit
- Pairs with clothes you already own instead of a full suit
Less good
- The inflated head catches wind badly and wants to turn you
- Mesh vision panels fog up quickly indoors
- Fan noise is right beside your ear in the head-only versions
- Crowd reaction8.2
- Build quality6.6
- Wearability6.8
- Fan and battery life6.2
- Storage footprint9.2

Kids Inflatable T-Rex Costume
viwzon
The child-sized version of the suit that started this category. Shorter runtime and less bulk, and the same rule applies: check they can see before they leave the house.
- Type
- Child full-body inflatable suit
- Fan
- Battery fan, 4 x AA, usually in a waist pack
- Fit
- Sized ranges, commonly 4 to 12 years
- Vision
- Clear vinyl neck or chest window
Good
- The matching-costume effect with an adult suit is the whole point
- Lighter than the adult version and easier to move in
- Cheap enough to accept that it is a one- or two-season costume
Less good
- Restricted vision matters far more on a child walking a dark street
- Battery packs sit awkwardly on a small waist and work loose
- Nylon offers no warmth at all — plan layers underneath
- Crowd reaction8.0
- Build quality6.4
- Wearability6.4
- Fan and battery life6.0
- Storage footprint9.4

AA Rechargeable Batteries with Charger, 10 Pack
BEVIGOR
Every suit on this page runs on four AAs and a fan that never stops. A charged second set is the difference between a costume and a deflated bag by mid-evening.
- Type
- Low-self-discharge NiMH AA cells with charger
- Count
- Buy eight — four in, four charged
- Use
- Costume fans, battery props, string lights
- Note
- NiMH runs at 1.2 V; fans tolerate it, some LEDs dim
Good
- Solves the one failure every inflatable costume owner reports
- Pays for itself across a season of battery props and lights
- Low-self-discharge cells hold charge from one October to the next
Less good
- 1.2 V instead of 1.5 V means a slightly slower fan than fresh alkalines
- You have to actually charge the spare set before you leave
- A charger is another thing to find in the box next year
- Crowd reaction2.0
- Build quality8.6
- Wearability9.0
- Fan and battery life9.6
- Storage footprint9.8

The battery problem, and the fix
Every full-body suit here runs a fan on four AA cells and that fan never stops — the moment it does, the costume is a bag. Fresh alkalines give a few hours, and a few hours starts when you put it on for photographs at six, not when you arrive at the party at nine.
There are two fixes and you should do both. Carry a spare set of four, and use low-self-discharge rechargeables so the spare set is actually charged. That is why a pack of batteries is ranked on this page alongside the costumes: it is the cheapest pick here and it is the one that decides whether the costume works at 10pm.
What the product photos do not show you
| The issue | What it means on the night | What to do about it |
|---|---|---|
| Vision | Peripheral vision is near zero in most suits | Never cross a road in one; have a spotter |
| Sitting | Full-body suits cannot sit in a normal chair | Plan somewhere to deflate and park it |
| Doorways | Standard doors need a turn and a squeeze | Deflate to move between rooms |
| Wind | A large inflated shape is a sail | Indoor and short outdoor use only |
| Warmth | Thin nylon, and the fan blows cold air in | Layer properly underneath |
None of this is a reason not to buy one. It is a reason to treat it as a costume for arriving and for photographs rather than a costume you wear from six until midnight. The people who love these own them for years; the people who hate them wore one to a standing-room party and could not sit down.
Choosing between the styles
- Character suits — a dinosaur, a licensed figure. Best recognition, best vision, and the least Halloween-specific.
- Horror suits — a reaper, a skull. On-theme and they work in low light, where the bright comedy suits stop reading at all.
- Illusion suits — the inverted and carried-figure designs. The cleverest effect in the category and the worst vision in it.
- Head-only inflatables — the oversized head or upper body. You can still walk and sit, and you supply your own lower half.
If this is your first one, buy a character suit. The illusion suits get the biggest reaction and are the ones most likely to be worn once and put away, because you genuinely cannot see out of them.
If you are buying for a child
Kids' versions of these suits exist and they are fun, but the vision problem that is an inconvenience for an adult is a safety issue for a child walking a dark street with traffic on it. Check what they can actually see before they leave the house, add reflective tape to the back, and accept that they will want it off before the end of the route.
The same technology, staked into your lawn
If you already own yard inflatables, everything you know transfers: the fan is the part that fails, the nylon tears at the seams, and a repair kit fixes more than you expect. Our yard inflatables roundup covers the outdoor side, base fan versus internal blower explains the two fan layouts, and the inflatable troubleshooting guide works on a costume as well as on a twelve-foot pumpkin.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best inflatable Halloween costume?
The licensed Jurassic World T-Rex, because it is instantly recognisable and its clear neck window gives usable forward vision, which most inflatable suits do not. For something on-theme for Halloween rather than comic, the inflatable Grim Reaper.
How long do inflatable costumes stay inflated?
As long as the fan runs, which on four fresh AA batteries is typically a few hours. That clock starts when you first switch it on for photographs, not when you arrive. Carry a charged spare set of four — it is the single most useful accessory in this category.
Can you sit down in an inflatable costume?
Not in a full-body suit. The inflated shell has no give at the hips, so a normal chair is out. Plan a place to switch the fan off and park the costume, or choose a head-only or upper-body inflatable, which leaves your lower half free.
Are inflatable costumes safe to wear outside?
In a yard or at a party, yes. On a road at night, be careful — peripheral vision is poor in almost every suit and the inflated shape catches wind badly. Add reflective tape, avoid crossing roads in one, and never let a child wear one unaccompanied after dark.
How do you store an inflatable costume?
Fully dry, with the batteries out of the fan pack. Nylon folds to about the size of a jacket, so a labelled bag on a shelf is enough. Leaving cells in the fan is how a perfectly good costume gets ruined by corrosion between seasons.
